Sam Bell's "Cooley" Lesson

Hey, I’m Sam Bell - a 19 year-old from a small town in England called Chichester.  I have been studying guitar for over two years now, ever since a magazine article featuring Yngwie Malmsteen inspired me to take technique and theory dead seriously! My other main influences are Gilbert, Cooley, Hendrix, Zappa, Becker, and Friedman.

Recently I was featured in Guitar Player Magazine (when they did a spotlight on 8 top Myspace guitarists), and I'm currently writing and recording an instrumental demo album.

Anyway, here are three licks by / inspired by Rusty Cooley. He's a huge inspiration of mine. Many thanks to Rusty!

Ex. 1 is an alternate picking run in E minor, Ex. 2 is a legato run in C major, and Ex. 3 is a C diminished economy-picked run.  Have a look at the tab and the video, and if you have any questions feel free to contact me!

I believe there is no such thing as natural talent; only a natural motivation to persevere in what we do.

Kind regards,

Sam Bell
